Philly Cheese Chicken Sandwich

This recipe is a chicken twist on the classic philly cheesesteak. It features sautéed peppers and onions, gooey provolone cheese, and seasoned tender chicken, all served on a warm whole wheat sub roll. Perfect for pleasing any crowd!

Ingredients

  • 4 whole wheat hoagie rolls 
  • 16 oz grilled chicken, I used John Soules Flame Grilled Chicken Breast Strips
  • 1/2 medium white onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 8 slices provolone cheese 
  • 1 tbsp avocado oil or extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • *optional: condiments like yellow mustard and mayo

Instructions

  1. Add oil to skillet and heat on medium. Add peppers, onions, and spices to skillet and sauteed until tender (3-4 minutes).
  2. While veggies are cooking, add chicken to skillet and cook on medium low until fully cooked.
  3. Cut hoagie rolls in halves and toast in the oven on 400 degrees F for 5 minutes or toast in a skillet for 2 minutes on each side (medium high).
  4. Once everything is cooked, add chicken and peppers to one side of hoagie and top with cheese. Add condiments if desired.
